A selection of photos taken whilst on a railtour to Ireland, May 2016.

40 year old GM diesel, in Westport.
Now used only on freight and works trains.

Modern RDC, seen on just about all passenger trains now, except for a few Express services from
Dublin to Cork or Belfast.

Steam locomotive #4, formerly of the LMS (Northern Ireland), built in the UK, but to Irish gauge.
Standard tank locomotive (no tender).

Another GM built diesel locomotive, repainted in to the older Irish Rail livery, specially for the railtour!

Unusual for Ireland.....
We arrived on the Thursday to clear skies, and it didn't start to rain until we boarded our flight back on Tuesday afternoon!
The downside......the steam loco set fire to the line side, initially on Sunday morning, when there were few trains about, but then more spectacularly on Monday afternoon, when it caused the mainline from Dublin to Cork (the premier route!) to be shut for about an hour, just before the evening peak!

Brian,

I also missed these wonderful photos back in May. Nice pictures even though those are some of the ugliest diesels I have every seen, including the new SD's and GE's.
