A few pics from today's fishing trip - these are from Lake Pepin, a wide spot on the Mississippi between Wisconsin and Minnesota. These were just downriver from Maiden Rock, WI.

John, great pics !! and dont try to outfish Him,they invented Eagle Claw Hooks !! have seen a young one once trying to learn to dive and catch fish, after at least 50 or 60 dives it did catch something, but was too far up the lake to see if it was poaching Bass or Panfish !! some spots on the James river we used the C&O/CSX for access and spots to fish off of thier graded bank.had to duck low when the long coal trains came east at speed.luckily there were no derailments, wouldnt do that today !! would try to be over 5o yards or more from the ROW now. and were the fish keepers ?? The fish were boring, sheepshead or freshwater drum as they are also known. I threw them all back. The big fella was definitely waiting for one to have a little trouble after we let it go.

Flatfish U20s or Quik Fish K-10s in Crackle Frog worked well too if the wind was behind You !! today Firetiger or Metalic Perch should work well, they werent available in the early 80s. Shallow Baby Ns in Chartruese Orange Belly Tiger Stripe also took some. copper Dardevle Spinnies,2 or 3 Mepps Silver Comets or Copper 2 or 3 Aglias also worked.use a single hook on them with a piece of worm,or a plastic 2" curly tail chartreuse grub. we'll learn Ya' to catch southern eyes !! Spikre, my buddy caught 3 wallies using leeches. We'd agreed he would use them and I would use minnows, he did better on getting the 'right' fish to bite. Trolling with crankbaits has not been working at all this month. Drifting has been slow too, but it's the only thing that's been stirring up anyone.

One of the nicest Walleye's I every caught was on a minnow that a leach had glomped onto. I was using a Lindy Rig at the time. When I caught a Fresh Water Drum, I would always through it back next to one the other fisherman in the boat, so they could catch it.

So John, when are we gonna see you on River Monsters on Discovery channel? Monster Quest on History did a show about some lake up in Canadia, people swear they've seen a 30 foot pike or something. That's when you go fishun' with grenades and a big fifty.
Fish taste like hell, I'll stick with watching them. I used to have a 12 inch Pleco... shoulda sent him to you to use as bait. Could've caught a whale. -------------------- Saia

Did see a story about a 130lb cat fish last week. Take a lot of hush puppies to make that fun.

I'm no fisherman, but I've drowned plenty of bait on fishing outings with others.
I'd rather let the line sit, have a cold one and watch trains and the wildlife!! Looks as if you had a pretty good time, though. -------------------- Mike :icon_smile_cop:

Spikre Bob,Around here a Erie Deerie or Golden Nugget Walleye lure tipped with a Canadian nightcrawler or minnow with catch the wallys...Cats favor those Canadian nightcrawlers as well. As far as wallys.. Very true Larry, although they will come shallow to feed. What we've found is when they find that depth they'll all be there - like on this trip they were not at 15'6" and they were not at 16'6" - they were at 16 feet and only 16 feet. -------------------- John Brock
