I'm trying not to be paranoid but after spending several hours every day receiving the "! Server not Found" page for the RRForum I'm just at my wit's end trying to figure it out. I use Firefox, have bookmarked two different URLs for the forum, taken out cookies, added the 'ask before accepting cookies' security level, what a pain in the backside that is. You don't have any idea how many cookies there are being insinuated upon our computers with every freaking page turn, I've run scans of everything and even used the Internet Explorer, and different computers in different locations, and STILL get shut out. Even gone to Google and tried URLs they suggested.

This morning I was shut out until just before 9 am Eastern and, obviously, now I have access. Yesterday my access was gained sometime after 0730 Eastern and I made a couple posts the next couple hours. Around 2 pm I tried and was shut out again and was all afternoon, evening and as I said late into this morning.

One thing I've noticed is I've not had a red screen kick back when spending 'too long' to get a post written and posted. No, just a damned NO SCREEN trying to enter.

No one else seems to be having any issues, IF there was work or maintenance going on in the restoration of service from the move I'd think it would affect everyone the same, but not that I can tell.

I guess it's just some way that I'm being told to quit wasting my time and get more real life. Guess maybe I will.

Karl: It's gotta be maddening for sure. Wish I was computer saavy enough to give you a hand up.

Karl, the main page is back up ( www.railroadforum.com ). Next time you have problems try going there. If you can get to that without problems it is definitely just a forum issue. Another thing to check is your virus scanner. I was having similar problems with modelrailroadtips.com (which uses the same software we do) until I started using a different anti virus program. Now the problem has gone away. I'll see if the forum creators have any idea.

Karl,

While I have not been a victim of the 'red screen', I do get the 'Server not found" screen frequently. In checking with my ISP ,he said it is caused by overloading of the telephone lines., and the problem lies with the phone company.

It does seem like I have the very irritating times at busy times of day. It made sense to me. Sometimes it only lasts a few minutes, other times for hours and hours. Sometimes I can beat the system by turning off the main power switch to my computer system, for a few minutes and restarting.

Good luck. Hang in there.

I've had the 'Server not found' on several occasions lately, when I've been at work.
Last night I was given access about 8pm but when I went back in several hours later, no!!
Tried throughout the night til 5.45am but no way!
Got home and all OK.

Now got back in mo problem but will monitor throughout the night.

However, I've never had the red screen of death!

Overloading of the phone lines? Unless you are unable to get dialed in (in which case the ISP is poorly underprovisioned), that sounds completely bogus. Of course, I work for an ISP - which is also part of a phone company.

I'm thinking more towards a DNS issue somewhere - Karl, when you get that server not found, open up a command line session and type in "nslookup forum.railroadforum.com" (without the quotes) and see what answer you get.

It should look like this:

C:\Users\Jeff>nslookup forum.railroadforum.com
Server: solaris.wvi.com
Address: 67.43.64.52

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: forum.railroadforum.com
Address: 74.53.26.210

(your Server: and it's Address: will be different, but the Non-authoritative answer: should be the same.

If that times out... I'd say your ISP has problems and it's time to find a new one.

Got home and logged in straight away!

November 2. I've still got the same issues. I do get on maybe once a day if I'm lucky.

I've used Firefox most of the time but also used Internet Explorer. I've used 4 different computers on my home net work. I've used the Doll's office computer 20 miles away on a totally different ISP and ethernet wired directly to the modem, network wi-fi device...proper term has left my memory at the moment, as well as different times of the day. The message between IE and Firefox differ slightly but it is the same. -sorry pal, ain't workin' for you- I am able most of the time to get the www.railroadforum.com opening page to come up but then click the "FORUM" 'button' on the lefthand side and right back at the error message. When I do get on, usually a big surprise, like this morning, I am able to stay on for awhile. Today, for instance, I did a break room opening post, answered a topic in another area and now am posting this with no problem, so there is some sort of barrier to actually connection being made. Brian, BKW, reports similar problems but isn't as vocal as I am, still has a real job and life.

This is the only forum, e-mail, internet connection that has done this to me. I frequent 2 other forums daily, Atlas and RR-line, and others at times and NEVER found this issue. It all started for me when the forum was moved in early October, and continues to this day.

Just an updated rant.

See ya.

Same here Karl, exact same symptoms. Sometimes I can find the main page but can't get to the forums. Sometimes I can't even get to the main page. Home or work, doesn't matter.

I only seem to have the problem at work, but then I put it down to something somewhere on the company software?
I find I can usually log in, no problem, as soon as I log in at work, but after visiting other sites then I get the 'server' problem.
Haven't had a problem at home for ages now!
