Okay guys. I have been busy weathering my little On30 Porter and the Shay.

The little 0-4-2 Porter has such a big open cab it has to have a crew.
I carved these from some nasty mouldings of "people" I bought at a railshow.

The same, if not more so with the Shay.

I still have to make a driver for the Shay.

A sweet loco, but a butt ugly crew!

I hope you like.

Michael.

Good looking indeed!
I really like the wheels on No. 1. I also really like the look of the trucks and lower boiler on the Shay. I don't recall seeing a boiler like that before though. Is that "hammer" shape common? The only weird thing I see with the shay is the coal load. I thought logging locos were typically wood burners...
I can't help but think that the Shay "needs something" to it. It's probably just my opinion and it's not my loco. I can't put my finger on what I think it needs though. Maybe a "Fire Bucket" in front of the cab, or a chain (or several) below the sill on the non-drive side. I imagine chain is used quite a bit in logging, and the loco would be a good place to have spare chain. I guess it looks a wee bit too generic IMO and needs something to add individualism.

Regardless, it's a great little duo. How many layouts do you have exactly?

Maybe you could get Nelson to send you a photo and you could sculpt him for the Shay-driver.... rolleyes.gif

Paul, I know I called them logging locos, which of course they are, but I don't have a logging line! My "Narrow gauge line" is purporting to be a preserved/tourist railway, and as such will have almost any locos on it that I want to run!
I did toy with putting ropes, chains and tool boxes on the running boards, but decided to keep the loco uncluttered, for the visitors to admire it. rolleyes.gif
As for the boiler, it is called a T-boiler!

Michael.
